1986 was the year of the Halley comet.
It is the most famous short period comet, visiting Earth every 75 years, or so.
They are recorded observations well back to 240 BC, and maybe 466 BC.
Below a scanned version of the original Kodak print made by Gaston Baudat our CTO during his trip to Madagascar.
The comet was at 66 million of Km.
